Graduating in 1990 from Curtin University (Perth WA) I have since had over 30 years experience as a physiotherapist in both the public and private sectors.

The last 20 years I have spent living, working and raising my family on the wonderful Coffs Coast and Dorrigo Plateau.

Over the years I have built an extensive knowledge and skill base in physiotherapy through my commitment to continuing education and evidence based practice.  This coupled with my many years experience working in large public teaching hospitals, busy private practices, emergency departments and rural generalist settings, has given me the knowledge, skills and clinical reasoning to assess and manage complex orthopaedic, musculoskeletal and chronic pain conditions.

I pride myself in offering a client centered, holistic and educational approach to my clinical practice.

My Headache journey

Misty Slopes

Not satisfied with the outcomes seen in the management of many headache clients and my own personal experience struggling with migraines and the stigma associated with them. I have been on a long journey endeavouring to seek out education, research and evidence based management for headache and migraine.

I have:

  • completed the Level 3 Watson Headache® Certification Course in Adelaide 2022

  • attended the Level 1 and level 2 Watson Headache® Approach

  • attended international headache symposiums.

  • trained and worked in chronic pain management.

  • trained and worked in managing vestibular dysfunction and dizzy patients.

  • completed Level 1 and Level 2 Breathing Retraining in Clinical Practice.

  • attended a multitude of additional courses pertaining to managing neck pain, headaches and their associated disorders

This education process is ongoing due to the growing and exciting research into headaches and migraines and their management. â€‹

Watson Headache® Approach

In 2019 I completed the three-day Watson Headache® Institute Level 1 Foundation course. Within weeks of utilising my new skills, I began to see more consistent and marked improvements in the outcomes of not only my headache clients but also those suffering debilitating migraines.  My passion was fuelled and I decided to focus my practice on helping people with this often debilitating and poorly managed condition.

In June 2021 I attended the two-day Level 2 in Sydney titled “The Role of C1-C3 Cervical Afferents in Primary Headache”.

Then in August 2022, after 12 months of reinforcing and advancing my skills and knowledge in the field of headache and migraine, I was able to attend the four day Level 3 Watson Headache® Institute Certification Course.

In a collegiate setting the 4 Day certification course was guided and assessed by Dr Dean H Watson, Australian Musculoskeletal physiotherapist and based on the Watson Headache® Approach. Over the 4 days clinicians were assessed in both practical and theoretical examinations. Experiences, ideas and skills were also shared.

The Watson Headache® Approach is recognised as a scientifically researched method of examination and treatment.

The diagnostic accuracy of the Watson Headache® Approach is unparalleled.

It can confirm if disorders in the upper neck are responsible for headache or migraine and determine the exact nature of the disorder as well as which spinal joints are involved. There is no guesswork and no cracking or manipulation. Its unique and powerful feature involves temporary reproduction and resolution (easing) of usual head pain.
